COMMUNITY ALERT – WHITE LAKE DRIVE US-31 BRIDGE CLOSURE

White Lake Drive remains closed over US-31 until spring for bridge repair

WHITEHALL, Mich. – In partnership with the Muskegon County Road Commission, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will repair the White Lake Drive bridge decks over northbound and southbound US-31. The bridge was closed on Tuesday, Jan. 6, due to poor deck conditions. Subzero weather has slowed down the work and consistently warmer temperatures are necessary before concrete can be poured. Crews will address the northbound structure first and then move on to the bridge over southbound US-31.

Whitehall Township – See map to left. Lane closures for road and bridge work are in effect through May 31st on northbound US-31 at White Lake Drive. During this time, White Lake Drive will be closed over US-31 and the off ramp from northbound US-31 to White Lake Drive will also be closed. 

White Lake Dr to SB-31 ramp will be open only to White Lake Dr traffic from the west.

White Lake Dr to NB-31 ramp will be open only to White Lake Dr traffic from the east.

UPDATE: February 26th, 2026: All lanes are scheduled to open by 9 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) on northbound US-31 at White Lake Drive. The off ramp from northbound US-31 to White Lake Drive is open, and White Lake Drive remains closed over US-31. Southbound US-31 lane closures at White Lake Drive are scheduled to begin 9 a.m. this Monday.

The picture from Wood TV-8 to the left shows the current opening through the bridge. Traffic to both sides of the bridge has been posted closed and will remain so until repairs have been completed. We apologies for any and all inconvenience this may pose to all, and please know our local road crews are working on an immediate fix. This bridge is scheduled for replacement in 2028.
